This scene offers a subtle palette of colours: greyish-white, black, blue and touches of gold. How could you use this combination of hues in your work?

Here are some perfectly shaped petals and leaves which could be used in many different contexts.
In (and out) of the Studio
In the studio I have been writing up a new pattern for sale: ’Black, White Greys’ which makes a large throw or double-bed quilt in a Modern style. You can get the patter

My quilt called ‘Love Grows’ (which I mentioned in last month’s newsletter has now been published in ‘Make Modern’ Issue 69. Here it is:

‘Make Modern’ have declared their intention to cease publication at the end of this year. This will be a great loss to the quilting community.
This month, the ‘Kent Speak Their Name’ quilt was installed at St George’s Church Ramsgate, on display until 1 April 2026. I have given an explanation about the quilt in the blog post here

Each day I walk by the sea in my home town and I have developed a particular fondness for the Georgian lighthouse that stands on the harbour arm. You can see it in the photo below. I’ve used it as inspiration for a quilt that will appear in an exhibition in September (more about that, nearer the time).

I am happy to report that I have now completed all the work for my City & Guilds Diploma in Patchwork and Quilting and I have great pleasure in inviting you to the final exhibition of work, where my sketchbooks and coursework will be on show. All the information is below:

It was my birthday last month and one of my presents was the book below ‘From Collage to Quilt’ by Sarah Hibbert. I love this book! I’d had borrowed it from the library and read it cover to cover (it’s very readable as well as being full of useful information). Anyhow, someone had noticed how much I liked it and bought me my own copy. I couldn’t have been more pleased. Sarah’s helpful approach to designing and making Modern Quilts is to begin with paper collage and in the book she explains how to go about this as well as providing some examples of her own sources of inspiration. She also has a top tip for how to insert circles into quilts which is most useful. You can find the book here
(This is an affiliate link for an item I use and can thoroughly recommend. It’s a great product.)
